CAROTID ANGIOPLASTY

Carotid arteries are those arteries that bring blood to the face or brain.

Fatty material called plaque blocks the artery completely or partially.

Carotid artery stenosis is partial blockage or narrowing which reduces the flow of blood to the brain.

A stroke can occur when a plaque breaks or blocks off another artery.

Carotid angioplasty has two procedures:

1. Endarterectomy: removal of plaque built up through surgery.

2. Stent placement
